Description
A looping tour of the historic site of the Popes' summer residence and a gastronomic mecca. After passing through the village, the tour takes you to the famous vineyards, where you'll discover a landscape of pebbles and vines.
From Place de la Fontaine, walk up Rue Joseph Ducos. At the end of the street, climb the stairs following the signs to the Château des Papes.
Cross the Château esplanade, turn onto the road and continue towards the large stone arch. After the arch, turn left towards the village. 200 m further on, reach the St Marc oratory and continue left on Avenue Monseigneur André Mestre.
At the next crossroads, take the cul-de-sac "Avenue des Oliviers" to the right of the oratory.
Go down the stony path through the vineyards. Once you reach the small asphalt road, follow it to the left.
Cross the D17, then continue straight ahead on Chemin des Armeniers to the crossroads.
Turn right, following the track. Leave the first track to the right and take the second after the Canal de Pierrelatte bridge.
Turn right, following the track. After the bend to the left, the vineyards on your right and the hill on your left. Continue in a straight line. Continue straight ahead until you reach a small tarmac road.
Turn right and continue along this road. At the crossroads, turn left: the road bends to the left, and you'll come to a bridge.
After circling the Tour de l'Hers, return to the canal bridge. Follow the "Chemin de Halage et du four à chaux" for 1.3 km. After 1 km, the path becomes a footpath and crosses a ditch.
Take the footpath on the left at the edge of the woods. Watch out for the pile of stones. After 200 m, heading north, find a wide path. Turn right, heading due east for 600 metres. It returns to point 4.
At the crossroads at point 4, turn right onto Chemin des Arméniers. Follow it for 100 metres, then take the path on the left that runs alongside the vineyards.
Continue until you reach the paved Chemin des Garrigues. Follow the road to the right as far as the traffic circle. Turn left at the traffic circle onto Chemin du Bois de la Ville. After 300 m, find Rue Commandant Lemaitre and continue along this road to return to Place de la Fontaine.
