Courthézon
Village of 5,500 inhabitants, built on a hill above the Rhône valley, crossed by the Seille and partly bordered by the Ouvèze. The commune of Courthézon is home to the oldest Neolithic site in France, dating from the 6th millennium BC.
Famous for its troubadours and love courts, Courthézon belonged to the Principality of Orange until its incorporation into the Kingdom of France on May 29, 1731. Its destiny beat to the rhythm of the turbulent history of its Princes.
The Etang salé de Courthézon, a remarkable wetland, is the 1st site in Vaucluse to be awarded the "Espace Naturel Sensible" label.
Today, it is home to a rich and well-preserved natural heritage, including species of
of birds, reptiles and amphibians, and its enhancement provides a high-quality welcome for the public.
